Incorporated in Tokyo in June 1979 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boyden Associates, Inc. (BAI) which is the oldest executive search firm in the world, headquartered in New York. In 1985, a majority shares of the local company, Boyden Associates (Japan) Ltd., was acquired by two associates, namely W. Stanley HOLT and A. Alex TSUKADA, and the firm became BAI's exclusive licensee in Japan. With the termination of License Agreement at the end of 1996, only the company name was changed from "Boyden" to "Alex Tsukada" with the same office location, staff, and capital (10 mio yen), effective January 1, 1997. The present staff in Tokyo consists of three Japanese and one American professional consultants, with five secretarial and support staff.

Though the Executive Search remains as the core business, the range of services was expanded to cope with the market needs to include the following:

1) Career Counseling/Guidance using Aptitude/Chemistry Testing
2) Customized Training/Development Programs for Managers
3) Human Relations/Labor Management Consulting
4) Outplacement Services

Clients have been primarily a blend of American and European companies with occasional other organizations from Australia, Canada, and Asia. Almost without exception, the people we have placed are Japanese nationals well versed in their fields and with strong English language communication skills. Compensation in recent years has ranged, in U. S. dollars, $80,000 - $300,000.

Over the past few years, work done on behalf of clients in Japan has been fairly wide-spread with approximately 20% of search activity in each of the following business segments: (1) general consumer products; (2) pharmaceutical and medical products; (3) chemicals and related lines; (4) financial services; and (5) high technology.
